PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ENGINEERING ACADEMY

ACADEMICIAN ARIF MIR JALAL OGLU PASHAYEV

Arif Mir Jalal Pashayev was born on February 15, 1934 in Baku. In 1957, he graduated from the Odessa Institute of Electrical Engineering and Communication, majoring in “Radiophysics”.

A.M. Pashayev started scientific activity at the Institute of Physics of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in 1959. He was one of the first Soviet scientists to start the creation of electromagnetic control methods of materials and products, and devoted more than 40 years of his life to the development and research of the scientific basis of electromagnetic control physics and semiconductor parameter measurement methods. Academician A.M. Pashayev is rightfully considered the creator of the physical foundations of non-contact research of materials in the field of high and ultra-high frequencies.

Arif Mir Jalal oglu Pashayev started his long-term scientific research in the field of non-injury control while he was still in Moscow. In 1960, he was admitted to the postgraduate course of the State Institute of Rare Metals (Giredmet), which is one of the leading scientific centers of the former Soviet Union. In 1965, he defended his candidate’s thesis on “Development of non-contact methods and devices for measuring the parameters of semiconductors at high and ultrahigh frequencies” and received the degree of candidate of technical sciences.

The main part of A.M. Pashayev’s applied research is focused on the improvement of existing devices and the development of new methods of measuring various physical quantities. At the same time, he was very well aware of the control problems and difficulties facing production, and his scientific research was aimed at solving these problems.

Since 1969, when the microelectronics industry began to develop in Azerbaijan, A.M. Pashayev’s scientific activity in the field of microelectronics, especially on the creation of microelectronic transmitters, begins. Scientific researches and works conducted in this field laid the foundation of a new direction in microelectronics – the field of microelectronic converters of non-electrical quantities.

The results of A.M. Pashaev’s theoretical and experimental research in the field of semiconductor electronics and microelectronics were reflected in his doctoral dissertation, which he successfully defended in 1978, entitled “Physical bases, development principles and application prospects of electromagnetic methods in the study of semiconductors”, and he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

While continuing his work in the field of microelectronic transmitters, A.M. Pashayev created a new type of integral temperature, pressure, humidity, force, acceleration and vibration transmitters. These transmitters are used in the creation of high-speed control systems widely used in shipbuilding, petroleum engineering, medicine, defense industry and other fields. Based on them, a telemetric, multifunctional, hydroacoustic complex apparatus designed for monitoring and researching underwater objects was created. In 1991, A.M. Pashayev was awarded the title of Azerbaijan State Prize Laureate “for complex works in the field of autonomous hydroacoustic information system creation”.

The results of scientific research in the field of microelectronic transmitters were published in the form of two monographs: “Solid-body microelectronic converters of non-electrical quantities” (1998) and “Solid-body microelectronic magnetoelectric and damp electric converters” (1999).

Many devices and devices developed by A.M. Pashayev were implemented at the level of invention and applied in various industrial enterprises of the former Soviet Union, and were awarded gold, silver, bronze medals and diplomas at various international exhibitions and competitions.

From 1971 to 1996, A.M. Pashayev headed the “Physical methods of non-destructive measurement and control” laboratory of the Physics Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and took an active part in determining the scientific directions of the Institute. It was during this period that he had an outstanding ability as a scientist and scientific organizer.

From 1996 to the present academician A.M. Pashayev is the rector of the National Aviation Academy of “Azerbaijan Airlines” Closed Joint Stock Company. Since 1996, when A.M. Pashayev was appointed rector, the National Aviation Academy has entered a new stage of development. Academician A.M. Pashayev started his activity by organizing the teaching process and scientific-research works at the level of the highest modern requirements.

A Scientific-Production Union has been established at the base of the Scientific Research Institute of Transport and Aerospace Problems, which combines the Scientific Research Institute, the Design Office and the Experimental-Test Production.

For the first time in Azerbaijan, academician A.M. Pashayev created a higher educational institution that envisages the unity of education, science and production.

The achievements of NAA under A.M. Pashayev’s leadership have been approved by various well-known foreign organizations. The “European quality” and “Europe’s best enterprise” international awards given to NAA for its high level of services in the education system in accordance with European standards are a clear proof of this.

In addition, the National Aviation Academy was awarded the Civil Aviation Higher Education Institution Certificate by the decision of the Interstate Aviation Committee, was included in the List of Civil Aviation Higher Education Institutions of the International Civil Aviation Organization, and was accepted as a full member of the Association of European Universities.

The collective of NAA under academician A.M. Pashayev’s leadership implemented the “Program on the development of science and education at the National Aviation Academy during the years 2003-2010”. This includes the completion of the construction of the Academy campus, the equipping of educational buildings with modern equipment and inventory, the opening of new specialties, the intensification of the training of highly qualified personnel in the field of aviation, the further development of scientific work and research in the field of civil aviation, etc.

A full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and a number of international academies, Arif Mir Jalal oglu Pashayev was awarded the medal named after Y. Mammadaliyev, the gold medal of the International Biographical Center of England and the title of “Inventor of the USSR” for his high achievements in the field of physics.

He is the chairman of the specialized dissertation council operating under the National Aviation Academy, a member of the coordinating council for the training of aviation specialists under the Interstate Aviation Committee.

Arif Pashayev graduated from National Aviation University of Ukraine, Aviation University of Georgia, he is an honorary doctor of the Odessa National Academy of Communication named after A.S. Popov, an honorary professor of the International University of Vienna, an honorary member of the Congress of Ukrainian Azerbaijanis. He is also the President of the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy founded in 2005, the Vice-President of the International Academy of Engineering and the President of the Public Union “Scientifically Guaranteed Innovation Association” founded in July 2009.

Together with scientists from Russia and Georgia, he is the author of a scientific discovery in the field of semiconductor physics. In connection with the discovery, he was awarded special diplomas 340 and 462, Nobel laureate in the field of physics a gold medal named after P.L. Kapitsa was presented to. He was also elected an Honorary Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, for which he was awarded a gold badge named after Vernadsky.
